‘Wedding Singer’ Granny Ellen Albertini Dow Dies at 101

Actress Ellen Albertini Dow has died, aged 101.

Dow passed away on Monday (04May15), her agent Juliet Green confirmed to Deadline.com. Her cause of death was not released as WENN went to press.

She is best known as the rapping granny in 1998 comedy The Wedding Singer who performs Rapper’s Delight by The Sugarhill Gang onstage at a reception. Her version of the song also appeared on the film’s soundtrack album.

Dow launched her professional acting career in her 70s after retiring from teaching dance and drama. Her debut movie appearance was in American Drive-In in 1985 and she also enjoyed roles in Sister Act, Patch Adams and Wedding Crashers.

Dow also appeared in TV series including The Twilight Zone, The Golden Girls, ER, Seinfeld and Star Trek: The Next Generation.
